Gym workshops

This fall season, we are offering workshops for gym-goers led by personal trainers! Inspiring workshops will be held at the Meilahti, Kumpula, and Otaniemi sports centers. The workshops focus on topics such as pull-up variations, squats, and deadlifts. You can participate with a UniSport training card, a 10-visit card, or a single entry ticket. Welcome to join us! Please note that the workshops are held in Finnish.

Workshop times and themes

1.Strong Shoulders

Date: Wed 18.9., 4:00 PM–6:00 PM
Location: UniSport Kumpula

In this workshop, we will go through exercises that target the various movement directions of the shoulder joint. In addition to bench and overhead press variations, you will learn different lateral raises and exercises that support the shoulder joint. Mobility exercises to complement strength training will also be taught.

2.Grip

Date: Tue 16.9., 5:00 PM–7:00 PM
Location: UniSport Meilahti

This workshop focuses on exercises that develop grip strength. It is suitable for those looking to increase strength for a specific sport (e.g., martial arts, racket sports, fencing, gym training, weightlifting) or simply to build forearm muscle mass. We will cover various gripping exercises, wrist movements, and arm exercises that increase forearm size.

3.Squat

Date: Mon 30.9., 5:00 PM–7:00 PM
Location: UniSport Kumpula

In this workshop, you will learn how to perform squats safely and with good technique in a style that suits your body. A well-learned technique allows you to safely add weight to the barbell. We will cover the goblet squat with a dumbbell, and variations of the back squat and front squat with a barbell. You will also learn some mobility exercises that can help improve the range of motion in your squats.

4.Deadlift

Date: Mon 14.10., 6:30 PM–8:30 PM
Location: UniSport Otaniemi

In this workshop, you will learn the most common deadlift techniques and variations, along with their effects. You will also learn how to avoid common technique mistakes and perform the lift safely according to your body proportions. Additionally, you'll get tips on the best warm-up routine before deadlifting.

5.Jump and Leap

Date: Mon 21.10., 4:00 PM–6:00 PM
Location: UniSport Kumpula

In this workshop, you will learn how to jump safely and leap effectively. We will go over safe jumping progressions and how to develop your jumping power. The workshop is suitable for all fitness levels, provided there is no injury preventing jumping. We will progress from low-intensity jumps to more challenging ones and also cover strength training and mobility exercises that support jumping.

6.Squat

Date: Wed 23.10., 5:00 PM–7:00 PM
Location: UniSport Meilahti

7.Bench Press

Date: Mon 4.11., 6:30 PM–8:30 PM
Location: UniSport Otaniemi

In this workshop, you will learn the most common bench press techniques and variations, along with their effects. You will also learn how to avoid common mistakes in technique and how to add more power to the movement. Additionally, you’ll receive tips on the ideal warm-up before bench pressing.

8.Pull-Up Variations

Date: Fri 8.11., 4:00 PM–6:00 PM
Location: UniSport Meilahti

In this workshop, we will go over different ways to practice pull-ups. We will work on scapular pull-ups, horizontal rows, negative pull-ups, and assisted pull-ups using bands, boxes, and bars. The goal is to find the most effective and suitably challenging methods for practicing pull-ups. You’ll also get useful tips for pull-up technique and warm-up exercises.

9.Postnatal Muscle Strength

Date: Thu 14.11., 5:30 PM–7:30 PM
Location: UniSport Otaniemi

This workshop is designed for mothers who have recently given birth and want to return to more active exercise after pregnancy and childbirth. You will learn how to safely and effectively begin gym training while considering pelvic floor function and pressure regulation, potential urinary incontinence, or diastasis recti. You'll also learn scaled muscle-strengthening exercises to start with, and progressions as you advance in your training.

How to participate?

These workshops are suitable for both beginners and more experienced gym-goers. You can join with a valid UniSport training card, 10-visit card, or single entry ticket. Workshops become available for reservation to training card and 10-visit card holders six days before the event. Single-entry participants can book a spot the day before the workshop. Bring suitable gym clothing and a water bottle! Please note that the workshops are held in Finnish.
